THE BUILDING IN BALANCE
Grönlandet has long been cared for with a focus on both its heritage and its daily use. Today, this approach includes everything from the energy-efficient systems that maintain the building, to the careful selection of furniture and materials, and even the food served in our café. Heat is recovered, ventilation is optimised, lighting is entirely LED, and green electricity powers the property.
Food waste is transformed into compost in 24 hours, leftover fruit is reused, and Mondays are celebrated with plant-based menus. Our small beehive and pollinating plants produce a limited edition of honey each year, while tenants enjoy free ecological coffee, tea, milk and fruit. Recycling is available on all floors, and furniture is preserved and updated with preloved items whenever possible.
WORKING WITH SUSTAINABILITY THROUGHOUT
Working with sustainability at Grönlandet includes all within the property, the working environment, the food that is served and the service provided. The property has the highest possible energy rating for an old building in use (culturally marked). We recover heat and optimize the ventilation system. We only have LED lights and buy green electricity.
- We have our own cafe – Nuuk where all food is cooked. We take care of left over fruit and use for juices or in baking. Mondays are only green on the menu.
- Compost machine which transforms food waste to soil in 24 hours.
- Small beehive and pollinating plants. Produce a limited edition of honey every year.
- All tenants are offered free ecological coffee/tea, milk and fruit.
- Recycling on all floors and a recycling room by the reception for larger pieces.
- Updates of furnitures are mostly made with preloved items.
